After overcoming six miscarriages, expectant mother Jessica and husband Kevin Mahoney couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome their rainbow baby into this world.
The Connecticut parents have struggled with fertility issues since the birth of their first child, Corbin. So, when Kevin asked photographer JoAnn Marrero to take pregnancy photos of his wife, she knew that she wanted to make it special.
JoAnn and Jessica emailed back and forth discussing possible ideas for the photo shoot, and ultimately ended up agreeing that they wanted to celebrate this sentimental event with something fun and uplifting.
Then, while looking for a gift for her son’s birthday, JoAnn stumbled across a brilliant idea–they could use smoke bombs to create an extraordinary colorful effect.
JoAnn collaborated with her friend and mentor Mary Mahoney of Pebbles and Polka Dots Photography and organized an outdoor pregnancy shoot that would incorporate a literal rainbow–all formed with smoke bombs.
The result? A breathtaking image commemorating their rainbow baby and all the ones Jessica and Kevin had lost before.
While Jessica and Kevin’s heartbreaking story is an experience that no parents want to ever have to endure, they have overcome their struggle with strength and are truly an inspiration to all.
And now, after the birth of their rainbow baby, they will have these incredible photos to reflect back on their courageous journey for many years to come.
